About Me

I'm Melisa Adams, a qualified and Accredited Psychotherapist (BACP), Advanced Clinical Supervisor, EMDR Practitioner, and Qualified Teacher (taught Psychology). I hold a BSc (Hons) in Psychology and a Master’s in Integrative and Couple & Family Therapy. I specialise in trauma, addiction, health-related challenges, and working with neurodivergent individuals. My supervision and therapy are delivered with care, integrity, and a genuine desire to see people grow into who they are meant to be.

My Background

For over two decades, I’ve supported individuals facing some of the most challenging psychological experiences, including trauma, personality disorders, addiction, neurodivergence, and enduring mental health difficulties. My work is grounded in compassion, integrity, and a deep belief in people’s capacity to heal. I’ve worked extensively with care leavers, survivors of abuse, and those affected by complex relational trauma. Alongside my therapeutic practice, I’ve led frontline teams, taught psychology, and built services from the ground up, designing care that is effective, trauma-informed, and person centred. Whether in supported living, domestic abuse services, or community-based settings, my focus has always been on creating spaces where people feel heard, safe, and empowered to move forward.

Clients and supervisees often tell me:

"You just get it, I don’t have to explain everything."
"I finally feel safe enough to speak honestly."
"You’re the first person who challenged me without making me feel small."

How I work

I love my work and truly value working with people at all stages of their personal and professional journeys. But more than anything, I’m real. I’m not a textbook therapist. I’m someone who will meet you where you are, sit beside you in the difficult moments, and help you take practical steps forward without judgement.

I respect everyone's background and unseen struggles. Here, you can relax, reflect, and grow without needing to explain yourself.

My Approach

My approach is straightforward, compassionate, and grounded in the belief that life is short, and living it meaningfully matters. I’m here to walk alongside you, offering challenge, insight, and support as you move toward real, lasting change. I ask thoughtful questions, reflect with care, and help you navigate what’s holding you back.

Although I have a strong academic foundation, I’m not a textbook therapist. I bring warmth, humanity, and a proactive style to every session, creating a space where you can be fully yourself, without judgement.
